William Jewell College is pleased to announce the appointment of Earl Benner Jr. and Angela Andresen Smart to the College’s Board of Trustees.
Earl Benner Jr., Weston, served as the director and chairman of the Board of Mutual Savings and Loan in Leavenworth, Kan., for 45 years. He also represented the Burley Tobacco Coop for the State of Missouri and the Council of Burley Tobacco in Kentucky. Further, he was instrumental in the creation of Benner Park for Weston, Mo., and Platte County.
He is a member of the Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City and director of the Weston Historical Museum. He has served on the board of directors of St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation of Kansas City for 10 years. He’s also served as advisor director of St. Mary’s College, director of St. John’s Hospital of Leavenworth, and past director of the Lake of the Ozarks Yachting Association.
Benner graduated from William Jewell in 1959.
Angela Andresen Smart, Fairway, Kan., is the vice president and program officer for the Hall Family Foundation. Smart specializes in strategic grantmaking in the arts, higher education and social services for children, youth and families. Before working with Hallmark, she worked with the Detroit office of Andersen Consulting and the Kansas City office of Grant Thornton, LLP.
Smart serves on the advisory board of the Hall Center for the Humanities, the allocation committees of the United Way of Greater Kansas City and Camps for Kids, and the board of the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation. She has been the finance chair on the board of directors of both Solace House and Sheffield Place. She was also the PTA president of the Indian Hills Middle School for the 2013-2014 school year.
Smart graduated from the University of Michigan in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with distinction in finance before earning a master’s in business administration in finance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1995.
