Brenda Newberry believes that obstacles are springboards rather than barriers, and that people should be victors of opportunity rather than victims of difficulty.
Newberry, founder of the consultant organization The Newberry Group, will bring that message to William Jewell College as part of the Distinguished Executive Lecture in Business and Leadership at 7:30 p.m. on March 30 at Jewell’s Yates-Gill College Union.
The Newberry Group provides cybersecurity and IT security services to government agencies and private companies not only in the U.S., but also in Europe and the Middle East. Brenda Newberry remained with the company until 2010.
Away from the company she founded, Newberry has written a book, Navigating Your Landscape: Finding Your Path Using a Moral Compass. She also served as an adjunct professor for Washington University in St. Louis for more than 21 years, teaching senior-level undergraduate and graduate-level operating systems and network communication management courses.
In addition to her teaching and book writing, she has found time to serve on a number of boards. She was the first female, alumni and African American to serve as Board Chair of the Webster University Board of Trustees. She earned the title of Chair Emeritus of that board in 2015. She also served on the Board of Directors of Enterprise Financial Services Corporation from 2007-2015 and has served on the Board of Directors for Spire Inc. since 2007.
