Reunion Weekend
Members of the classes of 1955, 1945 and 1935 will
gather for special events connected to their milestone
50-, 60- and 70-year reunions. These activities are
exclusive for members of the honored classes and are
held Thursday, October 27 and Friday, October 28. Class
members are urged to finalize their participation plans
with the Alumni Office.
Friday, October 28
Here’s an exciting update regarding the 15th
Homecoming Golf Tournament at Claycrest Golf Club:
Worth Harley-Davidson of Blue Springs, Missouri, is
sponsoring a hole-in-one contest during play. Sink
a hole-in-one and receive a fabulous V-Rod motorcycle,
valued at $18,000. We know there is a golfer out there
who could drive away with this bike. Make sure you
take advantage of this chance and sign up to play in
the tournament!
Educational Funding Services, Inc. (EFSI) of Waco,
Texas, will be the event sponsor for the tournament.
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit WJC Cardinal
Athletics. Sponsorship opportunities and player participation
are still available.
Saturday, October 29
Celebrate Greek Life at WJC by taking a look at the
past, present and future. The past is viewed with tours
of the former off-campus fraternity homes where men
of Kappa Alpha Order, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Gamma Delta
and Sigma Nu spent many years prior to having on-campus
fraternity homes. The current homeowners have graciously
opened
their homes to William Jewell College alumni for this
one-time-only event. The opportunity to visit and tour
these private homes will likely not occur again, so
plan to take part in this chance to see the venues
of many fond memories.
Shuttle buses will depart campus from the site of
the former Regent’s Quad/Married Student housing
at R.E. Bowles Drive and Doniphan Street, with return
to campus via the current fraternity homes. All tours
will be back in time for the new sorority complex site
dedication at 11:30 a.m. at the former Regent’s
Quad/Married Student housing site. Plan to visit with
current and alumnae members of Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha
Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta and Zeta Tau Alpha sororities
who will be on hand for the site dedication.
Don’t miss a fabulous barbeque lunch in the
Mabee Center. As the meal is being catered by an outside
vendor due to the Yates-Gill College Union renovation,
reservations for the lunch are required. Be sure to
indicate if you are planning to attend and secure your
space at this event by returning the reservation form.
You will not want to miss special pre-game festivities
at Greene Stadium. Make sure you allow sufficient time
to eat lunch and then find a place in the stands to
sit with your class year or affinity group. Look for
the special reserved seating areas! A very special
surprise is being planned to entertain you prior to
the game. Don’t miss it!
The All-Alumni Dinner and Dance will take place at
the Embassy Suites KCI, near the KCI Airport, with
the Athletic Hall of Fame reception held from 5:00
until 6:30 p.m. The Hall of Fame reception is your
chance to visit with the Hall of Fame honorees, reminisce
about the great games and good times you had as a student
athlete or fan of the honorees and other Cardinal athletes.
A general reception for honored classes, affinity
groups and everyone attending the All-Alumni dinner
will occur from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a free-flowing
format that will allow you to meet and greet WJC alumni
from the milestone classes of 2005, 2000, 1995, 1990,
1985, 1980, 1975, 1970, 1965, 1960, 1955, 1950, 1945,
1940, 1935 and 1930. You’ll move into the ballroom
around 6:30 p.m. to find your reserved seats. Class
and affinity group photos will be taken prior to dinner.
Dr. David Sallee will present welcoming remarks following
dinner. Special recognition of WJC’s “Golden
Class” consisting of 50+ year graduates, WJC’s
first African-American graduate, milestone classes
and affinity groups attending the dinner will be spotlighted.
Athletic Hall of Fame Awards will be presented to
the honorees: The 1988 Men’s Basketball Team;
Kirk Chastain ’79 for Basketball; Robin Maser ’80
for Volleyball, Basketball and Tennis; Tim Johnson ’85
for Football; and a posthumous award to Homer Martin ’28
for Track and Field.
The 2005 Alumni Board of Governors Service Awards
will be presented to Christopher Shultz ’93,
Young Alumni Service Award; Gary Barnes ’75,
Distinguished Alumni Service Award; and Ann Suddarth ’81,
John F. Truex Award for Lifetime Alumni Service. Rosa
Langston, Judy Minor and Judy Rychlewski will receive
honorary membership in the National Alumni Association
of William Jewell College.
