The Joy In Celebrating Those Who Mattered

By Mayela Esser
Regional Director of Development

The “Pink Ladies” of Beta Sigma Omicron share their plans with Dr. Georgia Bowman (seated at left) at Homecoming 2006.

The late Dr. Georgia Bowman ’34 made a generous gift to the college which was recorded as the very first contribution to the Sorority Complex and Greek Common project.  Two hundred and twenty six others have followed her lead to date.

It won’t be surprising if the last gift to the Sorority Complex and Greek Common is given to honor Dr. Bowman.  In 2006, the alumnae of Beta Sigma Omicron, predecessor of our Zeta Tau Alpha Chapter, initiated a recognition project to honor their chapter founder, mentor, and faculty legend in the new facility.  Fortunately, these women had the opportunity to let Dr. Bowman know of their plans before she passed away in December of 2007.

With a $1,000,000 challenge grant on the line from the J.E. & L.E. Mabee Foundation, the Sorority Complex Steering Committee will take the next few months to make a broad call for support so we can quickly make this $12.5 million dream a reality.

Is now the time to call that friend and sister?  Is now the time to honor that person who mattered the most?

Who was your Dr. Georgia Bessie Bowman?
