Home-Schooled Students

William Jewell College welcomes applications from students who are home-schooled. In fact, home-schooled students have traditionally fared very well in our environment because of our unique core education program, rigorous academic programs, and willingness to work with students who are interested in creating a self-designed major.

In addition to creating an environment that is conducive to home-schooled students, WJC has made working with prospective home-schooled students and their families a priority. The Office of Admission has assigned one staff member to work with all the home-schooled prospective students and applicants in order to ensure the admission process is as seamless as possible. Kelly Burnley Miller, Associate Dean of Admission, works with home-schooled families. She can be reached by calling 816-415-7507 or by e-mail at millerkb AT william.jewell DOT edu

Students who would like to apply for admission should fill out the Application for Admission in addition to providing the following items:

  • A high school transcript provided by a diploma granting organization or completion of the transcript form by the person primarily responsible for your educational experience. Classes taken at two- and four-year colleges are valued by the Admission committee and should be included on the high school transcript or transcript template form. In addition, official transcripts are needed from any two- or four-year colleges where a student has received college credit.
  • Official standardized test score reports (ACT and/or SAT). William Jewell's institutional codes are ACT-2394 and SAT-6941. Home-school students do not need to take the GED.
  • One academic recommendation to be completed by a teacher or professor who can attest to your academic abilities (this should preferably come from a non-family member).
  • A $25 application fee which can be waived if you apply online. Make checks payable to William Jewell College.
  • A personal statement (250-500 words), which describes an experience that has had an impact on your life.

Attach a separate sheet of paper which addresses the following questions.

  1. Are you going to receive a state-recognized high school diploma?
  2. What curriculum do you use (if any)?
  3. Please include any additional comments or information which will increase our understanding of your home-school experience.

You can submit your Application for Admission online. Please return all other requested information to the Office of Admission, 500 College Hill, Box 1002, Liberty, MO 64068.
