Founded: In 1849, among the first 4-year men’s colleges west of the Mississippi.

Location: Liberty, Missouri (population: approximately 30,000), 20 minutes north of the heart of Kansas City, Missouri (greater metro-area population: 1.8 million).

Institution Type: 4-year, private, residential, co-educational, national liberal arts college.

Consortium: Annapolis Group, Council of Independent Colleges, American Association of Colleges and Universities.

Campus: 200 acres encompassing academic, residential and recreational resources, beautiful gardens, and golf course.

Facilities: White Science Center, Pillsbury Observatory, Pillsbury Music Center, Marston Hall, Jewell Hall (listed on National Historic Register), Yates-Gill College Union, Curry Library, Gano Chapel, Art Studios and Stocksdale Gallery, Peters Theatre, Mabee Athletic Center, student fitness center, football, baseball, softball, and soccer fields.

Degrees offered: Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts; more than 60 academic degrees including majors in the traditional liberal arts and sciences as well as new majors which include Applied Critical Thought and Inquiry and Nonprofit Leadership. The College supports a number of pre-professional programs and extends the opportunity for a self-designed major.

Enrollment: approximately 1,100 full-time day students and 200 students enrolled in the evening division.

Academic Profile, 2009 entering class: Midrange ACT scores: 23-29; Average ACT: 26; 29 ACT or higher: 36%; Average grade point average: 3.7; Top quarter of class: 68%; strongest academic profile of all small private colleges and universities in Missouri and the surrounding states of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.

Faculty: 78 full-time members, approximately 85 percent have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. All classes are taught by professors with no teaching assistants.

Student to Faculty Ratio: 11 to 1; Average Class Size: 16 students.

Comprehensive Fees: 2011-2012- $37,160 (includes tuition, room and board, and general fees).

Financial Aid: 99 percent of students receive achievement and/or need-based state and/or federal aid or institutional assistance; $22,596 average award.

Residence Options: William Jewell College is a residential college with both co-ed and single gender residence halls; six traditional residence halls and sorority and fraternity housing.

Campus Organizations: more than seventy organizations including thirty-eight nationally affiliated and 33 campus-wide organizations which offer a range of experiences including service organizations, social organizations, to academic honor organizations.

Athletics: A member of the Heart of America Conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Jewell fields teams in men’s and women’s basketball, track, cross country, tennis, soccer, spirit team, and golf, as well as women’s teams in volleyball and softball, and men’s teams in football and baseball.

Post Graduate: Approximately 1/3 of Jewell graduates enroll in graduate or professional school within one year of graduation (6% business, 18% law, 16% medical and dental, 12% theology, 14% education, 20% arts and sciences). Additionally, of those who immediately seek employment, 86 percent report finding jobs in a field related to their major within six months and 98 percent within 1 year.

Endowment: Approximately $80 million.
