Dr. Tara Allen, the Dr. Burnell Landers Chair and professor of biology, received the 2010 Carl F. Willard Distinguished Teacher Award and presented the Willard Lecture on campus in November. The Willard Lecture is named for the late Carl Willard, a trustee at William Jewell from 1967-1991. To honor Willard’s memory and perpetuate his ideals, friends established the Carl F. Willard Distinguished Teacher Award at William Jewell as a continuing investment in tomorrow’s leaders. The Faculty Development Committee recommends honorees to the Dean and President of the College, who make the final selection for the annual award.
Dr. Allen’s lecture was titled, “Bringing Life to the Study of Life: The Use of Analogies, Case Studies and Research in the Teaching of Biology.” She earned her bachelor’s degree with majors in biology and chemistry from the University of Evansville, and her doctorate of physiology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She began teaching at William Jewell in 2000.
