During the fall semester, on campus at Jewell we raised over $2000 that will be used for materials for the latrine project. The first significant contribution came from Student Senate. They helped get our project going with a generous contribution of $1,000. That was followed by a campus wide effort called Bucks-4-Bricks. The team that is going to Honduras in January 2011 developed the goal of inviting every student, faculty, and staff member to trade $1.00 U.S. Dollar for one Honduran Lempira. Our goal was to raise $1600 by May of 2011. To date they have raised just over $1,000, matching the gift from Student Senate. These funds have been sent on to Embarcadero, where they have been used to purchase bricks and cement to complete the latrines throughout the village.
As Spring approaches, our May team will continue the fundraising efforts, so that we can reach our goal of $1,600 before our trip in May.
