DC Internships
Live. Learn. Intern.
Since 1967, The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) has been a leader in educating young people from around the world in the fundamental principles of American democracy and our free market system. TFAS has been the launching pad for over 13,000 students who have participated in our programs in Washington, DC and around the world in Asia, Europe and South America. Alumni of our program are leaders in government, business, the media and nonprofit sector.
Each Institute offers classroom study, internships, and special events. Programs are offered in the following areas of focus: International Affairs and Economics, Journalsim and Communication, Public Policy and Economics, Philanthropy and Voluntary Service, and Business and Government Affairs. Each program includes courses for transferable credit from George Mason University, a guaranteed internship placement, furnished housing, guest lecures and site briefings, and professional development and networking events. The summer Institutes have a combined enrollment of 330 and the semester enrollment is approximately 40. Students in the summer are housed together at George Washington University while the Capital Semester students live in furnished residential buildings located on Capitol Hill.
Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling bases until March 7, 2013 for the Summer Institutes. Fall and Spring Semester deadlines are June 1, 2013 and November 1, 2013, respectively. Public Policy Track For students looking to write legislation, research international policy issues, go to law school, or work in local government. With Capital Semeseter, you are guaranteed an internship with a federal agency, Congressional office, policy group, international affairs office, or nonprofit organization. In the classroom, you will study the historical traditions of the American political and economic systems.

Political Journalism Track For students looking to cover a campaign trail, report current events, or develop a strategic marketing plan for a corporate client. With Capital Semeseter, you are guaranteed an internship with a newspaper, online publication, public relations firm, television station, or radio station. In the classroom, you will study the historical traditions of the American political and economic systems.
