Jewell’s Department of Nursing and Liberty Hospital entered into a partnership in 1999 to provide resources to faith communities and social groups. Formerly called Parish Nursing, Faith Community Nursing is the specialized practice of nursing within the context of a faith family, which focuses on the physical, psychological, spiritual and social dimensions of health.
The Department of Nursing and Liberty Hospital provide the Basic Parish Nurse course in the spring of each year for registered nurses, health professionals and eligible students. The content follows the endorsed curriculum established by the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, www.parishnurse.org. RNs are invited to develop an agreement with their own faith community to provide parish nursing services to the congregation following completion of the course.
