Student Worker Program
The Student Worker Program at William Jewell consists of part-time jobs arranged by the college, usually on campus and in conjunction with your course schedule. Students are not permitted to work more than 20 hours per week; however, studies have shown that working more than 12 hours per week begins to adversely impact student academic performance. A number of off-campus positions are also available through the comunity service program and funded by the Federal Work Study Program. There are two types of work programs at Jewell:
Federal Work Study The Federal Work Study Program is based on demonstrated need. FAFSA submission is required by the college and offered to the student on the financial aid award.
Institutional Work-ship Workship is non-need-based employment in a college department. Written authorization from the college department is required. These positions are limited.
What is the difference between Work Study and work-ship? Work Study is a federally funded work program where the U.S. Department of Education funds 75% of the student's earnings to eligible students. The college is then responsible for 25% of the student's earnings. Work-ship is the term given by the college referring to employment positions funded 100% by the college. For this reason, the college places a priority on employing Work Study eligible students.
