Dianne (Jeter) Shumaker ’66 believes in the power of providing an unrestricted gift to William Jewell College every year. To demonstrate their commitment to transforming the culture of giving at William Jewell, Dianne pledged a total of $500,000 to benefit the Jewell Fund. This gift comes in the form of a challenge, focused on increasing participation and unrestricted annual giving. The Shumaker Challenge is divided into three separate phases covering a two-and-one-half year time period.
The first phase of the Shumaker Challenge focused on graduates from the classes of 1990 through 2004. When this phase of the challenge closed, over 250 young alumni made their first gift (or their first gift in recent years), adding $100,000 to the Jewell Fund. This new support helped overall participation grow to 20 percent.
