October 11, 2013

Washington Monthly magazine has named William Jewell College to its list of nationally ranked liberal arts colleges that contribute to the public good. Jewell claimed the No. 62 spot, moving up from its No. 74 rank last year and No. 145 rank in 2011. In the category of community service participation, Jewell placed No. 22 nationally, up eight spots from last year’s No. 30 rank.

The ranking by Washington Monthly is unique in that it not only measures academic excellence but also how effectively colleges serve society. The magazine rates schools based on social mobility, recognizing a cost-effective education and helping low-income students earn degrees; research, indicated by scholarly projects and moving graduates to Ph.D. programs; and service, such as campus participation in community service, incorporating service in courses and encouraging students to give back to their country.

This honor follows recent accolades for William Jewell College from the Princeton Review, Forbes and U.S. News & World Report, recognizing William Jewell’s overall value, student outcomes and academic rigor.
