Jewell students attend American Chemical Society meeting Contact: Rob Eisele, 816-415-7574 April 9, 2010
Eleven William Jewell College students attended the spring national meeting of the American Chemical Society March 20-23 in San Francisco. Chemistry professors Dr. Jason Morrill and Dr. Lori Wetmore were sponsors of the students’ research, and Dr. Shane Price and Dr. Ed Lane accompanied the students to the ACS meeting.
The following six students presented posters on their research: • Joedd Biggs – “Computational mechanistic investigation of novel fast-reacting methacrylate polymerization.” • Nicole Brown – “Investigation of hepatitis C viral translation inhibition through docking of small-molecule inhibitors at a proposed HCV IRES binding site.” • Amber Hull – “Design of benzoic acid derivatives as broad-spectrum influenza neuraminidase inhibitor using QSAR and docking.” • Hannah Lewis – “Elucidation of the interaction between p75NTR and A2A receptors in response to amyloid-b (1-42) in PC12 cells.” • Kelsey Rogers – “Investigation of the role of p75NTR and A2A receptor interaction in modulating autophagy in response to amyloid-b (1-42) exposure in PC12 cells.” • Anna Thoma – “ImEMA-HEMA diblock copolymer as an electrolyte membrane material for PEM fuel cells.”
