The William Jewell College Board of Trustees met January 18 and 19 on the campus in Liberty, taking action on several measures.

The board approved a tuition increase from $20,150 to $21,400 for the 2007-08 academic year. Room rates will increase from $2,320 to $2,460, while board will increase from $3,190 to $3,380.

In other action:

The board elected Janice C. (Jan) Kreamer, former president and chief executive officer of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, to William Jewell’s Board of Trustees. Kreamer retired Dec. 31, 2005, after nearly two decades leading the organization. The Foundation manages more than 1,600 personal, corporate and agency endowment funds that support a wide array of social, educational, artistic and health-related projects in Kansas City. The Foundation is perennially ranked among the top 10 in assets, gifts received and grants made among more than 650 community foundations nationwide.

Under Kreamer’s leadership, the Foundation became one of the fastest growing community foundations in the country. In 1986, the Foundation managed approximately
$12 million in assets. Today, it manages assets of more than $1 billion. During her tenure, she led the development of a strong investment program for Community Foundation donors which included the addition of an alternative investment option.

In addition, Kreamer was responsible for building financial service capacity and infrastructure for the 2,000+ donor accounts, including on-line giving and the ability to give alternative assets such as real estate, closely held companies, and art work. The Foundation, under her leadership, assisted with Ewing Kauffman’s donation of the Kansas City Royals major league baseball team, as well as management of the sale of the team to current owner David Glass. The $130 million in proceeds were reinvested in area charitable projects.

Ms. Kreamer has earned respect for her contributions to building strong organizations and coalitions that have an impact on communities across the country. Currently, she serves on the boards of directors of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas City; The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, New York City; The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation; The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts; The Johnson Foundation, Racine Wisconsin; and the Village Presbyterian Church Endowment Trust. Kreamer attended the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, where she received bachelor’s degrees in history and economics.

The board also approved promotions in rank for six faculty members: Dr. Ian Coleman of Liberty, Mo., from associate professor of music and chair to professor of music and chair; Dr. Alan Holiman of Kansas City, North, from associate professor of political science to professor of political science; Dr. Elizabeth Sperry of Kansas City, North, from associate professor of philosophy to professor of philosophy; Dr. Kathleen Tacelosky of Liberty from associate professor of Spanish to professor of Spanish; Dr. Lori Wetmore of Raytown, Mo., from assistant professor of chemistry to associate professor of chemistry; and Dr. Jane Woodruff of Pleasant Valley, Mo., from associate professor of history and languages to professor of history and languages.
