William Jewell College’s Students In Free Enterprise team was among the five regional winners of the Sam’s Club Environmental Sustainability Challenge in April in Bentonville, Ark. Teams were judged on how effectively their projects created economic opportunity by helping businesses make environmentally sustainable decisions. Dan McMillen, a member of the William Jewell College class of 2010 and Liberty resident, presented for Jewell. The team received the Region A finalist award and a $1,000 grant.
At the organization’s national Expo in Minneapolis May 18, William Jewell placed third in the Sam’s Club Sustainability Challenge and received $3,000. The team was named first runner-up in the overall competition for League 16, placing them in the top 40 among all U.S. teams. Jewell also advanced from the top 20 in the financial literacy category to third place in the nation with its “Money Farm” project. The team earned a trophy and another cash prize of $1,000 in addition to a plaque.
