Assists the Director of Athletics/Chair of the Department of Physical Education and Recreation in the overall management of the intercollegiate athletics program. Serves as a member of the teaching faculty and is an integral part of compliance activities for the department and the College.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the recruitment/retention efforts for all 18 sports programs in coordination with the Offices of Admission, Financial Aid and Student Affairs
- Coordinate the department’s athletics financial aid budget with the Offices of Financial Aid and Admission
- Serve as a member of the campus wide compliance committee and facilitate the NCAA/GLVC rules education program
- Coordinate game management administration for selected home athletics events
- Develop relationships with alumni and other friends and supporters of the College
- Represent the department at selected meetings in the absence of the department head
- Teach academic and/or activity courses
- Other duties as assigned by the department head
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Progressive experience as a coach and/or administrator in intercollegiate athletics
- Master’s degree in physical education or related field is required with a demonstrated commitment to excellence
- Familiarity with appropriate athletic governing organization rules and regulations (NAIA, NCAA)
- Experience and or demonstrated familiarity with recruiting, particularly in college
- Commitment to recruiting and retaining a culturally diverse student-athlete population
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- An understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges in the environment of private higher education
Working Conditions
Normal office environment, some travel required. Evening and weekend work required.
Physically able to lift 25 pounds.
