Summary

The Department of Languages seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of French position to begin August 2012.  The successful candidate will show an ability to teach a course in 21st century French and Francophone literature and an interest and ability to teach in the Core Curriculum.
 
Qualifications

  • Ph.D. is preferred, but ABD applicants will be considered.
  • College teaching experience is desirable, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentoring is expected.
  • Native or near-native fluency in French required.
  • Commitment to proficiency based language learning in a liberal arts college curriculum.
  • Proven evidence of a strong record of classroom teaching and scholarship within field of expertise.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to teach all levels of French, including beginning, accelerated beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.
  • Ability to teach literature and civilization.
  • Ability to teach 21st century French and Francophone literature preferred.
  • Ability to teach in the Critical Thought and Inquiry core curriculum.
  • Scholarly inquiry in any areas of the discipline will be considered, including philology, literature, and pedagogy and related fields (service learning, community-based studies, contact with speakers and culture of the target language, second-language acquisition, applied learning, transformational learning, and study abroad).
  • Other responsibilities will include academic advising and involvement in College and departmental activities.
