Summary
The Director of the Tucker Leadership Lab is responsible for the coordination, staffing, management, and facilitation of all external and internal groups sponsored by the Pryor Center for Leadership Development (PCLD) utilizing the Tucker Lab (High and Low Ropes Course Program).
Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate, manage, staff, and develop the team training and leadership development programs for the Tucker Leadership Lab.

Develop and facilitate team training, leadership development programs and conferences associated with the Tucker Leadership Lab.
- Hire, train and supervise facilitators associated with the outdoor Tucker Leadership Lab and indoor based ropes course programs.
- Develop training manuals and procedures for facilitators of the Tucker Leadership Lab and train facilitation staff accordingly.

Manage the safe day-to-day operations and services of the Tucker Leadership Lab which includes leading groups (youth and adult), staffing, group scheduling, facilitator supervision, and client relations.

Manage and oversee the maintenance, safety and risk management plan of the ropes course and grounds encompassing Tucker Leadership Lab while overseeing life safety policies and procedures for customers and facilitators. This includes completing basic course maintenance as needed.

Manage, coordinate and complete customer service duties such as program design, planning, customer relations, billing and quality control of the Tucker Lab.

Market, sell (in person and over the phone) and present the Tucker Lab services and classroom rope programs to community agencies and businesses 10 months of the year.

Work with the Director of Community Engagement, WJC Marketing Director and Pryor Center Director in developing marketing strategies and promotions for the Tucker Leadership Lab.

Other duties as assigned by Director of Pryor Center for Leadership Development.

Ensures Tucker Lab and training programs associated with it are managed in a fiscally responsible way as an earned income strategy for William Jewell College.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Bachelor’s degree in business, education, outdoor education, recreation, communication, public relations, nonprofit management or organizational development.

Master's degree in education, communication, recreation, MBA or MPA is highly preferred.

Five or more years of successful experience in Outdoor Education and Ropes Course Management are required along with a preferred strong background in training and organizational development.

Proficient in MS Office (including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher) with accelerated ability to learn new programs, database management and computer systems.

Five years experience in high and low challenge course facilitation required with a minimum of 500 documented challenge course days facilitated.

Strong knowledge in challenge course structure, operations, and repair is required.

A minimum of five years of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

Experience in volunteer management is highly desirable.

Strong experience in challenge course initiatives, new games, and group processing.
- First Aid/CPR certification required (or obtained within three months of hiring).
- Strong adult and youth group facilitation and training skills with a working knowledge of adventure based learning theories and techniques.
- Excellent communication skills including oral and written presentation skills.
- Organizational planning, project management and program development skills.
- Experience in marketing and promoting Outdoor Education/Rope Course programs with ability to assist in designing/developing marketing materials.
- Well organized and able to multi-task between office management and program facilitation and training.
Working Conditions

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Ability to climb a ladder and stairs.

Ability to be comfortable at heights of 45 feet.

Ability to stand while working for at least 4 hours.

Ability to work weekends and evenings including Sunday will be required to fulfill customer's needs.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships and communicate effectively with students, employees and the community.

Ability to respond appropriately to varied personalities, stressful situations and emergencies.

Ability to work in extreme conditions with exposure to varying temperatures, humidity and weather conditions.

Ability to work equally well in Office Environment and Outdoor Education setting.
