Summary

The Information Services Specialist position provides hardware, software and network support to ensure proper configuration and functioning of desktop computers, network and other related systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consults with staff, faculty and students to determine hardware and software needs.
  • Provides system analysis and testing of hardware and software problems related to computer operating systems.
  • Tests, modifies and provides technical support in the use of business applications and third party products by providing guidance, remedies, and recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Provides front-line support in person and by phone to troubleshoot software, hardware, and network problems of desktop and laptop computers (PCs and Macs).
  • Responsible for the installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of desktop workstations, laptops, peripherals, and other related systems.
  • Performs installations, upgrades, and back-ups of software and hardware applications.
  • Documents and maintains an up-to-date inventory of software, desktops, laptops, and other peripheral equipment.
  • Provide high quality customer service through courteous, prompt, and accurate communication.
  • Work closely with fellow IS staff on technical implementation issues.
  • Performs other duties, leads projects/tasks, and assists with projects/tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred.
  • Basic PC, MS operating system and networking troubleshooting skills.
  • Some knowledge of VDI/thin clients.
  • Basic printer troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Proven ability to develop mutually respectful, harmonious, and trusting business relationships in an interdependent community such as a college campus.
  • 1-2 years+ of computer operations or related work experience.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time viewiing data on a computer screen is necessary.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs.) required to move hardware.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends is required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
