Position Title: Maintenance Technician
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Summary
Assists in the maintenance, operation and installation of HVAC equipment including boilers and chillers. Performs routine maintenance and repairs on pumps, water softeners, furnaces, and other plumbing fixtures. Position handles all types of plumbing, heating and electrical activities on campus and is also responsible for the maintenance of pool facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates and maintains all campus boilers, furnaces, pumps, blower motors, cooling towers, chillers and HVAC equipment.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical issues including lighting and controls.
- Maintains all plumbing fixtures on campus.
- Orders supplies as necessary insuring projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Consults and oversees work performed by outside contractors.
- Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- HVAC certification is strongly preferred.
- Vocational-technical or apprentice training desired.
- Three to five years of relevant work experience is required.
- Experience with electrical controls and an understanding of underground utility operations is necessary.
- Experience with boiler systems is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of the methods, practices and safety precautions of the HVAC/Electrical and plumbing trade required.
- Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to sanitation public health.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, building plans, and work drawings required.
- Ability to direct unskilled laborers as necessary.
- Skill in safety and use of tools and equipment is required.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to the elements often required to complete repairs.
- Must work with HVAC, electrical, sanitary sewers, natural gas and steam systems.
- Heavy lifting (50 - 75 lbs.) required occasionally.
- Exposure to above normal noise levels, vibration, fumes and dust daily.
- Manual dexterity required in performing maintenance and for handling small items and tools.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl on hands and knees, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to hear sounds clearly such as alarms, pagers, phones and voices.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with students, employees and the campus community.
