The Pryor Learning Commons Technical Assistant is a full-time position (approximately 40 hours per week) and serves as the technical support system for the Pryor Learning Commons.  This position requires a strong technical background and strong customer service skills.  This individual must possess the ability to successfully interact with patrons of varying technical abilities.  This position reports to the Library Director but also takes direction from the Instruction and Archives Librarian, the Systems Librarian and the Circulation Supervisor on tasks that fall within their departments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable of and practice the training and troubleshooting processes put in place by the Systems Librarian and the Library Director for all information technology systems located in the Pryor Learning Commons and the Library.
  • Provide assistance and training to faculty, staff and students of William Jewell College in using the technology available in the Pryor Learning Commons and Curry Library.
  • Provide assistance and training to students in troubleshooting basic computer problems, printing, wireless access, etc. on both their personal computers and library computers.
  • Provide assistance to faculty, staff and students in locating and accessing information through print and electronic library resources using the reference instruction processes put in place by the Instruction Librarian and Library Director.
  • Manage and perform clerical duties necessary for the operation of library and learning commons operations.
  • Collect data regarding manner and frequency of service to the Jewell community on a regular basis as determined by the Library Director and participate in discussion and application of improved systems as a result of this assessment.
  • Supervisory duties including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising work of student employees.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong technical background.
  • Ability to learn new skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to successfully interact with patrons of varying technical abilities. 

Working Conditions

  • Some lifting (up to 40 pounds) and moving of carts is required.
  • This position requires a flexible schedule to meet library needs throughout the academic calendar cycle.
