JOBS AT JEWELL:          Web Developer - POSITION FILLED

DEPARTMENT:              College Relations and Marketing

REPORTS TO:                 Director of Communications

FLSA STATUS               Exempt

 

Summary

The Web Developer reports to the Director of Communications in the Office of College Relations.  The Web Developer is responsible for the maintenance of the Jewell web site, contributes to the architecture and implementation of new and existing services and technologies and assists in the daily maintenance of digital content using standard development tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond to the direction and guidance of the Director of Communications who develops and maintains a strategic plan for Jewell's web presence
  • Maintain the Jewell web site(s), including regular updates to existing pages, coding of new pages, and continuing improvements to sections of the site reflecting best practices and newest thinking for Web methodology
  • Design and code e-communications in support of admission, alumni relations, the faculty, development and others as needed
  • Develop new Web applications as identified by supervisor and management through packaged and customized applications
  • Create design and content enhancements and modifications to the website on a daily basis, including all organizational and maintenance issues; and in concert with management priorities, policy directions, and goals
  • Design and implement user-driven templates, databases and interfaces for ease of use
  • Assess new standards, technologies and trends, and formulate strategies and plans for enhancing the site
  • Maintain cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility so that the web site is accessible from a variety of different environments
  • Assist with the training of faculty, staff and students for various content management solutions as appropriate
  • Analyze traffic statistics and report on a monthly basis; suggest solutions related to content development, search engine optimization and search engine marketing

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced-level web management background and knowledge of best practices pertaining to web graphics and web file management
  • Minimum two years’ web development experience
  • A strong working knowledge of database management
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to prioritize and identify creative solutions to web tasks
  • Advanced proficiency with HTML, HTML5, CSS3, PHP/MySql, jQuery, JavaScript, Adobe Creative Suite and responsive design
  • Familiarity with Section 508 compliance and accessibility guidelines
  • Proven competence with SEO and SEM
  • Expertise in web and graphic design, photo and copy editing

 Work Environment

  • Normal office environment
