March 26 Binns Lecture postponed

The Binns Lecture on the Sacred & Secular and Power & Justice in Society scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, has been postponed due to travel conditions for the lecturer.

Georgetown University professor and author Dr. John F. Haught will return to William Jewell next academic year. Haught, who received his Ph.D. from Catholic University in 1970, is Senior Fellow of Science & Religion at the Woodstock Theological Center of Georgetown University. He was formerly a professor in the Department of Theology at Georgetown University from 1970 to 2005 and also served as the department chair from 1990 to 1995. His area of specialization is systematic theology, with a particular interest in issues pertaining to science, cosmology, evolution, ecology and religion. 

Haught has written several books and authored numerous articles and reviews. He lectures internationally on many issues related to science and religion. In 2002 he was the winner of the Owen Garrigan Award in Science and Religion, and in 2004 was the recipient of the Sophia Award for Theological Excellence. He also received the “Friend of Darwin Award” from the National Center for Science Education and held the D'Angelo Chair in the Humanities at St. John's University in New York City in 2008. Haught testified for the plaintiffs in the Harrisburg, Penn., “Intelligent Design trial” (Kitzmiller et al. vs. Dover Board of Education).
