What is a Choral Scholar?

Since the 14th Century in England, students who exhibit fine choral abilities and exceptional potential as scholars,have been awarded the title of Choral Scholar. This is usually one of the highest honors an institution can bestow upon its undergraduate students. William Jewell College is proud to uphold this fine tradition by offering students of outstanding ability the possibility of becoming a William Jewell Choral Scholar.


Who can apply to be a William Jewell Choral Scholar?

Choral scholars at William Jewell will have exceptional vocal skills and the ability to express those skills ensitively within a choral setting. Choral scholars are not required to major in music and William Jewell College offers a wide range of majors. Being a choral scholar, you will be able to study the major you are most interested in while also developing your love of choral music.

What is the benefit of being a William Jewell Choral Scholar?

The concept of a 'scholar' is that beyond being a fine singer, the recipient is also a fine academician. Your substantial scholarship will combine music and academic elements to offer the best possible assistance for you to attend William Jewell College.

Responsibilities of a Choral Scholar

  • Perform in Concert Choir, our premier choral ensemble
  • Perform in one other ensemble on campus as determined by the Scholars unique skills and interests
  • Engage in opportunities to perform in a select ensemble formed entirely of William Jewell Choral Scholars
  • Enroll in Voice Lessons
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Engage in Masterclass opportunities with renowned
    groups such as the Kings Singers

 

 

How many William Jewell Choral Scholars are there?

This year we are accepting up to eight, a double quartet (SSAATTBB),Choral Scholars. If you have a love for choral music, a high level of vocal talent, and a desire to study in a rigorous academic setting, then you should seriously consider becoming a William Jewell Choral Scholar.

How do you apply to be a William Jewell Choral Scholar?

First apply to be admitted to William Jewell College then apply for acceptance into the Department of Music and for audition as a choral scholar.
