William Jewell College has been named one of the nation’s 376 best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education services company features William Jewell in The Best 376 Colleges, the just-published 2012 edition of its annual “best colleges” guide. Only about 15% of the country’s 2,500 four-year colleges are included in the annual guidebook, which features profiles on the schools and student survey-based rankings in various categories.

Student survey-based rankings placed William Jewell in the number 18 slot among the top 20 colleges nationwide for town-gown relations, a category measuring the quality of an institution’s relationship with the community in which it is located.

The Princeton Review cites Jewell as “the quintessential liberal arts college, thoroughly engaging students in critical study of both the self and the world as a whole.” Also noted are “accessible and supportive professors,” along with easy access to internships and widespread participation in service projects.

“Often called ‘the Harvard of the Midwest,’ William Jewell College is a prestigious small school with a strong sense of community,” the guidebook noted.

“We commend William Jewell College for its outstanding academics, which is the primary criteria for our selection of schools for the book,” said Robert Franek, senior vice president of publishing and author of The Best 376 Colleges. “Our choices are based on institutional data we collect about schools, our visits to schools over the years, feedback we gather from students attending the schools, and the opinions of our staff and our 28-member National College Counselor Advisory Board.”

The Princeton Review posts the book’s ranking lists on its website at www.PrincetonReview.com

William Jewell College is committed to bringing together talented students and gifted faculty mentors within a vibrant community sparked by a rigorous and intentional liberal arts curriculum. A full range of personal and professional development experiences are presented by the selective national liberal arts college’s location within the Kansas City metroplex of more than 2 million.
