We understand that students are engaged in a spiritual journey, at different speeds and toward different ends. Because we are committed to spiritual values and maturity in faith, William Jewell offers students many opportunities to explore and express faith in ways unique to their own needs and individual interests. Jewell welcomes students of all faiths. We are both proud of our heritage and comfortable with a generous Christian world view for the future.
At William Jewell College…
We value the promise of community to shape us, enriched by our similarities and differences.
We value engaging the world.
Our vision includes raising and engaging significant questions in pursuit of knowledge and wisdom; and grappling with the meaning and implications of both Christian faith and other perspectives through disciplined and intimate conversations.
We emphasize the “lived” Christianity that Jesus urged of his followers. The ultimate end toward which we work is social justice and peace.
We value loving-kindness; we value community; we value extending our hands to others; we value justice; we value excellence in all we undertake. William Jewell College is clearly and strongly Christian in the most positive and inclusive sense of that term.
The college community is offered the opportunity to worship together in John Gano Memorial Chapel each Wednesday morning at 10:15 a.m. and at other times established by the Dean of the Chapel. Chapel services include music, Scripture, prayer, sermons, lectures, communion, and creative programs. Attendance at chapel is by personal choice. Many students and faculty find it a very refreshing time of worship and reflection in the middle of the week.
The Dean of the Chapel is responsible for the Chapel service and fills the role of the college pastor/preacher and worship leader. Throughout the year, significant College events occur during the Chapel hour: Opening Convocation, Hanging of the Green, Achievement Day, and the Binns Lecture. The chapel hour may be used as a lecture period toward the end of integrating faith and learning.
Our goal is to encourage spiritual growth by serving others and building community.
CSM is an integral part of campus life. Involving students, staff, and faculty we strive to make the college community "an institution loyal to the ideals of Christ.”
Supervised by the Office of the Chaplain and the Campus Minister, CSM is a relevant, student-directed, team of ministry leaders, committed to becoming kingdom focused servants, making an impact in our world.
