Students recognized for chemistry research

William Jewell College students Sheila Bailey and Sarah Scoggin, who presented their chemistry research projects at the Midwest Regional American Chemical Society meeting in Springfield, Mo., received awards for “Excellence in Research and Poster Presentation” on October 17.

Bailey, a senior chemistry major and Linn Valley, Kan., native, presented a poster entitled, “Computational docking investigation of saxitoxin.” Scoggin, a senior double major in chemistry and applied critical thought and inquiry from Camdenton, Mo., presented her poster, “Investigation of a dendrimer based on 2,2,5-trimethyl-1,3-dioxane-5-carboxylic acid as a potential biocompatible material for tissue scaffolding and drug delivery in ocular applications.”

Dr. Jason Morrill, associate professor of chemistry, served as the research advisor for both students.
