William Jewell College offers additional BSN Accelerated Track option Contact: Rob Eisele, 816-415-7574 November 10, 2010
The Department of Nursing at William Jewell College will offer a new BSN Accelerated Track option for students beginning in January of 2011.
The new 16-month, January-to-May program is designed for college graduates seeking to complete the requirements for the bachelor of science in nursing on an accelerated schedule. The new program is in addition to the 12-month, May-to-May accelerated track BSN option and the traditional four-year program of study already in place at William Jewell.
“The new 16-month program still allows students who have already completed college degrees to complete the BSN requirements within a manageable time frame,” said Vicki Meek, chair of the Department of Nursing at William Jewell. “The pace of the 16-month program allows for flexibility in the coordination of personal and academic schedules.”
In response to the need for additional nurses, the William Jewell College Department of Nursing received approval from the Missouri State Board of Nursing in December of 2002 to begin an Accelerated Track (AT) program.
Meek cited a 2002 study by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing that pointed out the advantages of accelerated nursing degree programs. “Colleges of nursing are finding accelerated BSN degree programs to be a creative way to increase student capacity and reach out to new student populations, while maintaining the integrity and quality of nursing education,” Meek said.
