William Jewell College is offering a series of public events on the Liberty, Mo., campus commemorating the Holocaust and its victims.
“The Warsaw Ghetto: A Pictorial Remembrance” is presented by the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education at Curry Library on the William Jewell campus now through April 18. The exhibit includes 51 photographs assembled by the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland depicting life in the Warsaw Ghetto from 1940 to 1943. The exhibit, which includes some graphic images, is open to individuals during regular library hours; groups should schedule a visit to the exhibit by calling Elise Fisher at 816-415-7611. Library hours are 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 11 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
The college will offer a special Holocaust Remembrance Chapel Service at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 11 in John Gano Memorial Chapel; admission is free. The service will include musical selections by William Jewell students and faculty along with a performance by the college’s Chapel Choir.
The Liberty Community Chorus will offer a Yom HaShoah Holocaust memorial concert at 2 p.m. April 15 in Gano Chapel. A reception in the White Atrium of the Yates-Gill College Union will follow the concert. The performance is entitled “From Darkness to Light: A Holocaust Remembrance,” and it includes composer Donald McCullough’s “Holocaust Cantata: Songs from the Camps.” Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students and children.
