The William Jewell College Society of Physics Students (SPS) Chapter recently received honorable mention and was designated a Distinguished SPS Chapter for the 2012-2013 academic year.
The honor indicates that Jewell’s SPS Chapter is among the top 20 percent of the 772 chapters in the country.
The assessment is completed by the SPS National Council, which examines depth and breadth of SPS activities conducted by a chapter and presented in an annual report. Areas evaluated include physics research, public science outreach, physics tutoring programs, hosting and representation at physics meetings, opportunities for social interaction for chapter members and participation in SPS regional and national level programs.
SPS officers include senior Bradley Dice of Liberty, Mo.; senior Conner Hazelrigg of St. Joseph, Mo.; and senior Samantha Lampe of Falls City, Neb. Dr. Blane Baker of Liberty serves as the chapter advisor.
