The Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., was named Regional Champion of League 2 during the organization’s recent regional competition held in Charlotte, N.C.
At the regional competition, seven Leagues of SIFE teams competed for an invitation to the SIFE USA National Exposition to be held in Minneapolis, Minn, May 11-13. SIFE teams from 38 different colleges and universities were represented at this event. It is one of 11 different regional competitions held this year during March and April. As Regional Champion of League 2, William Jewell earned the right to compete at the SIFE USA National Exposition in Minneapolis in May.
In addition, William Jewell’s Money Farm financial literacy program was honored as one of the top 20 programs in the U.S. From the 20 Finalists, the top three SIFE teams in each topic competition will be announced at the SIFE USA National Expo in May. Money Farm was awarded this top 20 honor previously in 2008 and in 2009.
Jewell’s Money Farm program was named the number two program in Financial Literacy overall in the U.S. in 2009. SIFE team members from business, accounting, and education majors have worked to deliver the custom lessons on Spend, Save, Donate and Invest to more than 1,460 area third graders this year. The project sponsor is M&I Bank and their Liberty, Mo., Branch location. Jewell graduate Lori Cook is their Branch Manager.
William Jewell’s team is also one of five region champions across the U.S. in the 2010 Sam’s Club Challenge. Jewell’s project work will be reviewed by a panel of executive judges in Bentonville, Ark., on April 23. The top three finalist teams selected from this challenge competition will be announced at the SIFE National Exposition in Minneapolis in May.
