2013 Commencement -- Saturday, May 18th, 2013
Commencement 2013 will be held on Saturday, May 18th, at 1 p.m. in the Mabee Center for Physical Education (Grads report to Gano Chapel at 11:45). The Baccalaureate service is at 9 a.m. that morning in John Gano Memorial Chapel (Grads report to the Atrium of Yates-Gill Union at 8:30 for line-up). See the full schedule for Commencement Day. Seating is first-come, first-served for both events, with no tickets required and no limitation on number of guests.
Nursing Class of 2013 Pinning Ceremony & Reception will be held on Friday, May 17th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mabee Center. No limit on number of guests -- the public is invited. For more information, please contact the Department of Nursing at 816-415-7598.
Academic Regalia Policy and Info -- Grad candidates who walk at Commencement are required to rent their regalia through the WJC Bookstore. Academic regalia includes mortar board cap, bachelors' gown and hood in a specific style, and red tassel to keep. (High school regalia or borrowed regalia will not be allowed.) Regalia is available for rental at the Bookstore during regular Bookstore hours (rental fee is $60). Payment is required at the time of rental. The information required is height, cap size (will be measured), and degree (BA or BS). December '12 grads or those studying off-campus may order regalia by phone to be shipped for a nominal fee--just call the Bookstore at 816-415-5956 with your information and credit card number. Grads are urged to rent their regalia early (deadline is April 15th), in order to ensure proper fit, exchange or special order if necessary, allow time for preparation (pressing and hanging), and also to ensure that grads who plan to walk will be included in the Commencement line-up. Grads are encouraged to take their regalia home, try everything on including cap, hang it up, and even take pictures in advance, since regalia must be returned immediately following Commencement.
Announcements -- Personalized graduation announcements are available through Herff-Jones, our vendor for graduation-related items (including diploma frames, class rings, etc.). Personalized announcements may be ordered online at www.herffjones.com/graduation, click on Place Your Order, then under College, click on Graduation Announcements. Enter William Jewell College in the Search for your School field, then click on the link when the college name appears. You will need your degree (BA--Bachelor of Arts or BS--Bachelor of Science) and your major(s)/minor(s). Non-personalized announcements are available for purchase in the WJC Bookstore.
Commencement Photography -- Grads who walk at May Commencement will receive an email with two photo proofs taken on the stage and with their diploma cover. After Commencement, grads should check your Jewell email account for an email from Grad Images. Grads and their families who wish to purchase Commencement photographs may order online at www.gradimages.com or by contacting Grad Images at 800-261-2576. Refer to your post-Commencement email for more information.
Applying for Graduation -- Students are expected to apply for graduation when they reach 75 completed hours, in order to be properly tracked by the Office of the Registrar. An Application for Graduation card must be completed in person at the Registrar's counter in Curry Library (Quad Level). Students planning to graduate May/July 2013 or December 2013 should have applied for graduation by now. Seniors who have not applied for graduation will not be cleared to enroll in a required CTI capstone course, and will not be included in distribution of information to grad candidates. Students who change their anticipated graduation date must re-apply for graduation at the Registrar's counter.
