The William Jewell College Handbell Choir and chamber wind groups will present a joint concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, at Gano Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature music by two groups of chamber winds: the Saxophone Quintet and the Wind Quintet. The Saxophone Quintet will play a variety of music, from a transcription of a piano piece by Isaac Albeniz to music from the video game franchise “Final Fantasy.” The Wind Quintet will play traditional repertoire, as well as a medley of famous classical pieces. The ensembles are organized by Dr. Langston Hemenway, director of bands.
The Handbell Choir, conducted by Christie White, will present original compositions for handbells and handchimes beginning with “A Festive Chime,” directed by student conductor Rosalyn Smith, junior music education and education major, Independence. Student conductor Meghan Recker, junior music major, Wichita, Kan., will direct “Make Me An Instrument of Thy Peace” by Kevin McChesney. The Handbell Choir will also perform “Invocation” by Michael Joy, “Reverie” by Karen Lakey Buckwalter and “Fanfare Jubilee” by Jason Krug.
