William Jewell College is proud to announce its 2016 schedule of holiday events and festivities.
All events except the Harriman-Jewell Series performances and the Liberty Symphony Orchestra concert are free and open to the public. Jewell’s holiday calendar includes the following events:
Hanging of the Green, 10:15 a.m., Nov. 30
John Gano Memorial Chapel, William Jewell College campus, Liberty
An all-campus musical celebration to open the holiday season, featuring the Handbell Choir, Jazz Band and Chapel Choir.
Harriman-Jewell Series: Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis: Big Band Holidays, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 1
Arvest Bank Theater at the Midland
Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis will lead a showcase of 15 of today’s finest jazz players joined by vocalist Catherine Russell.
Lighting of the Quad, 7 p.m., Dec. 2
Gano Chapel and Quad, William Jewell College campus, Liberty
A celebration of the season in Gano Chapel, followed by a lighting ceremony on the Quad featuring the Symphonic Band.
Celebrating the Green, 8:30 p.m., Dec. 2
Peters Theater, William Jewell College campus, Liberty
The Jewell Theatre Company and the Jazz Band will present a classic holiday story combining reader’s theater and live music. The performance will follow the Lighting of the Quad.
Schola Cantorum, Evensong for Advent, 5 p.m., Dec. 4
Church of the Resurrection, Blue Springs
The Schola Cantorum, specializing in the period and period-informed performance of music written before 1750, will perform an Evensong for the Advent season led by Professor Jay Carter, artist in residence.
Liberty Symphony Orchestra Holiday Concert, 3 p.m., Dec. 4
Liberty Performing Arts Theatre, 1600 S. Withers Road, Liberty

Harriman-Jewell Series: Joyce DiDonato and Il Pomo d’Oro, performing In War and Peace: Harmony Through Music, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 7
Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato will appear with Italian chamber orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro to explore the dichotomy of discord and harmony in times of war while interpreting Baroque arias.
The City Come Again, noon (music begins as 11:30 a.m.), Dec. 12
Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Broadway at 13th Street, Kansas City
Jewell’s Christmas gift to the city in words and music, featuring the College’s Handbell and Concert Choirs, along with Dr. Ann Marie Rigler, organist. Dr. Elizabeth MacLeod Walls, president of Jewell, will participate in the program.
Harriman-Jewell Series: WindSync, wind quintet, Simple Gifts: A Holiday Sampler, Dec. 15
7 p.m., Folly Theater
An emerging ensemble known for engaging interpretations of classical music, WindSync will offer a holiday treat including selections from The Nutcracker, folk tunes and carols.
