William Jewell makes plans for 2016 Homecoming

William Jewell College will celebrate the rich history and traditional events of Homecoming on Oct. 7-9.

The weekend is highlighted by the Homecoming football game between William Jewell and Quincy University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. The traditional crowning of Homecoming king and queen will take place at halftime.

The Homecoming festivities will start on Friday with a celebration of Golden Classes, a free lecture by assistant professor of religion Dr. Brendon Benz, and the Alumni Awards Dinner.

Honorees at the dinner will include: Neita Frohmuth Geilker ’56, John F. Truex Lifetime Alumni Service Award; Bill Dillingham ’97, Distinguished Alumni Service Award; Meredith Moore ’12, Young Distinguished Alumni Service Award; Kimberly Flowers ’99, Jewell Humanitarian Award; and Phil and Ann Posey, Honorary Alumni.

The events will continue on Saturday with the Nursing Excellence Alumni Scholarship 5K Run/Walk, a celebration of 70 years of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, the Aeons Reunion Breakfast, a coffee and brick dedication for new members of the John Priest Greene Society, a pre-game celebration in the White Science Center parking lot before the game, the Black Alumni Reunion dinner and fellowship, and the Jewell Athletic Hall of Fame reception and induction ceremony. Several class reunions are also scheduled throughout the weekend, and the events wrap up with the Black Alumni Reunion worship and praise service on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Athletics Hall of Fame inductees include Lynsay (Gallagher) Holst ’05 – women’s basketball, Steve Hodges ’84 – football, Gary Patton ’77 – football and baseball, Blake Ryan ’05 – men’s soccer, Weldon Stubbs ’94 – men’s basketball, the 1980 football team and the 1981 football team.
