Jewell Theatre Company set to perform ‘Godspell 2012’

Jewell Theatre Company will present a retelling of the life and times of Jesus Christ in “Godspell 2012” at 7 p.m. April 14-16 and on Family Weekend at 7 p.m. on April 23 at Peters Theater inside Brown Hall on campus.

Godspell was originally performed off Broadway in 1971 and features modern music paired with lyrics from traditional hymns. The play is based on the Gospel of Matthew and includes music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

The Jewell Theatre Company will perform music from the 2012 Broadway revival. A number of theatrical techniques will be used to explore the tale of the Good Samaritan, the beatitudes, the story of Lazarus, and the Passion.

Tickets for the performance are $6 for students, the Jewell community, and seniors, and $12 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased in the Peters Theater lobby, reserved by calling the box office at 415-7590 or online at http://jtcgodspell.brownpapertickets.com.
