Title:                       Assistant Baseball Pitching Coach

FLSA Status:       Exempt – Part-Time 10-month assignment

General Function

The Assistant Baseball Coach is responsible for recruiting, training, and coaching student-athletes participating in the sport with emphasis on total development of the individual pitcher and the pitching staff. The Assistant Baseball Coach is fully responsible for compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations as well as Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) rules and all College policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise all warm-ups, tubing, arm care, conditioning, long-toss etc.
• Keep up on all equipment needed for pitchers… tubing, med balls etc.
• Implementation of daily practice plan during “Team Practice” and “Small Groups or Individuals”. Coordinate all pitching charts and responsible for giving out pitching handouts.
• Develop and implement of pitching plan and with catchers too. Develop defensive emphasis and PFP.
• Video analysis of pitchers in bullpens/games and body language between pitches or away from the mound.
• BP duties and Fungo duties when assigned.
• Field Maintenance: Learn all field maintenance responsibilities and how to work all equipment. For example, drag, mow, water, edge, fertilize etc.
• Responsible for: Game mound, Home & Visitor pen, how to fold, store and put on a tarp correctly. Maintain catch and PFP area
• Responsible for post-game charts and evaluation forms and implementation of game day preparation for starters and relievers.
• Coordinate daily injury report of pitching staff with athletic trainer.
• Main marketer and coordinator for any baseball youth camps or baseball tournaments.
• Game day responsibilities home/away. Responsible for coordinating all meals (pre-game, during and post-game), home and away.
• Attend ABCA coaches meetings each year.
• Community engagement… hospital visit, reading program etc.
• Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Progressive experience as a coach in the sport; and collegiate experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field is preferred with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in academic programs
• Familiarity with appropriate athletic governing organization rules and regulations (NCAA, GLVC)
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
• An understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges in the environment of private higher education
• Possess a class E driver’s license.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment as well as indoor and outdoor athletics facilities. Some travel required. Evening and weekend work required. Physically able to lift 25 pounds and attend practice and competitive sessions indoors and outdoors
