William Jewell College will host the 33rd annual Northland Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, in Gano Chapel on the College’s campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The featured speaker for the event is Rev. Kasey D. Jones, the pastor of National Memorial Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. She is the first woman and African-American pastor in the history of that church.
The program will include music by the William Jewell College Concert Choir, Anwar Robinson and the First Baptist Church Choir (Liberty), as well as the presentation of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Awards for Community Service. It will also include a Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. by God’s Grace Ministry and the William Jewell Black Student Association.
The Invictus Award will be given to Rev. Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield Sr., former pastor of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church.
