William Jewell College believes in a holistic review of student credentials for admission. We believe – and research supports – that factors other than test scores are better indicators of potential for success in the classroom and the college community. Students with an outstanding record of academic achievement in a rigorous high school curriculum and demonstrated leadership and service in their community and school are the most successful test-optional applicants.

If you apply as a test-optional candidate, you must have a minimum high school core GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate outstanding performance in core academic courses in English, math, science and social sciences. Successful candidates will have demonstrated consistent, above average performance or substantial progress throughout their high school career. If you have a GPA of less than 3.0, you may be recommended for consideration by your high school guidance counselor.

Most students will want to submit ACT and/or SAT test scores as part of their admission application and may indicate this desire by including William Jewell College’s school code (ACT – 2394, SAT – 6941) on the tests.

If you would like to take advantage of the test-optional opportunity, please indicate that on the application for admission. After you are admitted, you will need to submit your test scores to the Office of Admission in August before classes begin so we can monitor the effectiveness of our program.
