Every Picture
Tells A Story
When I worked in the Office of
Admission I was fond of
encouraging prospective Jewell
students to picture what might be
important to them beyond college: “Selecting a college isn’t about your
next four years, it is truly about the
rest of your life and all the years you
have left.” Those interested in
picturing a life beyond college saw
more clearly the value of the Jewell experience. Every picture
tells a story. Our prospective students would certainly benefit
if they knew the stories behind the pictures below.
| The 2006 senior class, perhaps more than any in the history of
the institution, understood that it is largely our alumni who
make the student experience possible. They were grateful.
Below, representatives from the class are pictured presenting
their class Jewell Fund gift to President Sallee. Our senior class
articulated the goal of the 2006 Senior Class Giving Campaign
on their website (www.jewellseniors.com): “The Senior Giving
Campaign seeks to educate graduating seniors about the
importance of alumni giving and to create a culture of giving that
will help Jewell take its place among the top liberal arts
institutions in the country.” |

| The second picture was taken at the 102nd birthday party for
Ms. Froncie Hill Joy ’26. During her party she shared wonderful
stories of her time at Jewell and it became clear what a
tremendous impact Jewell had in shaping her life. The picture
shows Dr. and Mrs. Sallee presenting Ms. Joy with a certificate
celebrating the fact that she is William Jewell College’s oldest
living alumnae. Upon receiving the certificate, Ms. Joy leaned
over to Dr. Sallee and said, “I never thought of myself as
old...until you gave me this.” |

If “every picture tells a story,” these pictures have a lot to say.
They stand as a reminder to our alumni that Jewell is forever a
part of our lives and is ours to cherish and protect. These
pictures say it much better than I did: “Selecting a college isn’t
about your next four years, it is truly about the rest of your life
and all the years you have left.”
