Career Mentor Program

William Jewell’s Career Mentor Program is one of the oldest and most established volunteer opportunities available to alumni.  Started in 1985, the Career Mentor Program offers sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to be paired with career professionals (most of whom are Jewell alumni) who give students an inside look at career fields of interest.  Participation consists of a series of up to six interactions during three months of the semester, typically at the mentor’s place of work.  When possible, mentors allow students to attend staff meetings or otherwise observe the true work of the mentor. 

The Career Mentor Program provides alumni an opportunity to reconnect with the College and to give something back in recognition of others who have helped them in their careers.  To read more about the Career Mentor Program, read the article in the Fall 2005 edition of Achieve magazine.  If you are interested in serving as a Career Mentor, contact us at alumni@william.jewell.edu.

Alumni Hosts

Do you enjoy hosting receptions, parties, and other gatherings in your house?  Do you have connections to a country club, reception hall, or other venues that can accommodate 25-100 attendees?  Would you be interested in a volunteer opportunity that utilizes these resources while giving back to your alma mater?

The Office of Alumni Relations and Office of Admission are continually seeking opportunities to gather alumni and prospective students both in and outside of the Kansas City area to talk about William Jewell College.  Alumni gatherings provide a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with one another while also learning about what’s new on the Hill.  Prospective student gatherings provide a unique opportunity for Office of Admission staff and William Jewell alumni to meet face-to-face with many high school students to discuss the advantages of the Jewell experience.

Being an alumni host at either of these events helps William Jewell in many ways, including reducing the costs of conducting such events, reducing the coordination efforts in securing a physical meeting space, and providing the William Jewell personal touch that a hotel ballroom simply cannot provide.
