Andrew L. Pratt '81 was named Dean of the Chapel and Vice President for Religious Ministries at William Jewell College in June of 2002.  He previously held the position of Campus Minister and Director of the Baptist Student Center at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.  He received his B.A. summa cum laude from William Jewell in 1981 and a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1984.  He completed special studies in the history of Christianity and American religious history at The Divinity School of the University of Chicago in 1986.  He earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988.  His areas of doctoral study included American religious history, historical theology and the sociology of religion.

At Southeast Missouri State, Dr. Pratt served as a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religion, in addition to his duties as Director of the Baptist Student Center.  His teaching assignments included world religions, Old Testament and New Testament literature, philosophy of religion and business and ethics.  He supervised independent studies for students working toward a minor in religious studies.

His publication credits include contributions to Perspectives in Religious Studies, The Greek Orthodox Theological Review and Teaching Theology and Religion.  He has contributed to such publications as The Dictionary of Baptists in America and The Blackwell Dictionary of Evangelical Biography.  

Dr. Pratt is a member of the American Society of Church History, the American Academy of Religion, and the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion.  He received the Templeton Foundation Course Award for Teaching Science and Religion in 1997 jointly with Dr. Allen Gathman, Professor of Biology, Southeast Missouri State University.  Dr. Pratt has been listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Religion, and Who's who Among America's Teachers.

He has served churches in Missouri as interim pastor, adult study leader and guest speaker.
