Applying to Jewell

We're glad you've decided to apply to Jewell!  To begin the process please locate your student type below.  Never hesitate to contact your admission counselor with any questions you may have.

 Check Your Application Status
Please allow up to one week after submitting your application before attempting to check your status.  Your username and password will be emailed to you after we receive your application. 
First-Year Applicant Application Dates and Timeline
  • November 1, 2009 - Early Application Date
Apply Early Application and receive:      
   Waived application fee
   Priority scholarship consideration
   Priority housing registration
   Priority course registration – (reserved space in early registration)
  •  December 1, 2009 – Priority Application Date
        Apply Priority Application and receive:
               Waived application fee
               Priority scholarship consideration
  •  May 1, 2010 – Late  Application Date


First-Year Applicants:
  • Step 1: Complete and submit the Application for Admission.
  • Step 2:  Complete and submit the Scholarship Application.
  • Step 3: Print a copy of the Secondary School Report, complete your section and forward it to your guidance counselor. Your counselor should complete the form and send it with your transcript to the Office of Admission at William Jewell College.
  • Step 4: Register and take either the ACT or the SAT-I and have your scores forwarded directly to William Jewell College (Jewell institutional codes: ACT - 2394; SAT - 6941).
  • Step 5: Submit Application fee of $25, unless you are completing an online application.
  • First-Year nursing applicants only - complete and submit the Nursing Application Supplement.
  • Oxbridge Honors applicants only -  submit two letters of academic recommendation and the Oxbridge Essay.  See below for additional details.

Common Application Applicants:
  - William Jewell College is a member of the Common Application.  
     No institutional supplement to the Common Application is required.
    

Transfer Applicants:

Note: Typically, a transfer student is someone who, after graduating from high school, has completed at least 12 transferable hours of college credit.

  • Step 1: Complete and submit the undergraduate Application for Admission and Scholarship.
  • Step 2: Request that complete transcripts from any previous institution be forwarded to the Office of Admission at William Jewell College.
  • Step 3: Submit Application fee of $25, unless you are completing an online application.

Oxbridge Honors Program, additional requirements:

Oxbridge Honors Program Applicants Only:
The Oxbridge program is an honors program for a select group of students who wish to pursue their major field of study through individual and small-group tutorials and by independent reading and research. The program is reading and writing-intensive, requires senior level comprehensive examinations and typically involves a year of study at either Oxford or Cambridge University. In addition to the first-year applicant terms above, please submit the following items to complete your application for Oxbridge consideration:
  • Two academic recommendations from teachers or professors.
  • Substitute the following essay prompt for the prompt outlined on the application for admission: If you could magically have the answers to any three questions, what would those questions be, and why? Your essay should be between 250-500 words in length.

Nursing Applicants - Transfer and Accelerated Track only:
Please complete the Nursing Application for Admission. If you have already completed a William Jewell College Application for Admission and Scholarship you can download and complete a Nursing Application Supplement and follow the instructions therein to complete your application for the nursing program.

Nursing Accelerated Track (BSN-AT):
In addition to submitting the items listed below, candidates for the BSN-AT Program must schedule a formal meeting with the Nursing Department and must take the A2 Reading Comprehension Test ($25) administered by the Nursing Department.

     Application Checklist (completed application file must be received by deadline for priority consideration):

  • William Jewell College Transfer Application for Admission
  • Nursing Application Supplement
  • Official College transcripts from all institutions
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (academic or professional) that address the candidate’s character and ability to complete a 12-month, intensive course of study
  • Personal Statement (Applicants should substitute the Personal Statement outlined on the Nursing Application Supplement for the Personal Statement described on the Application for Admission & Scholarship)
  • $25 Application Fee (Waived for on-line applications)
International Applicants:
  • Step 1: Complete the International Undergraduate Application for Admission
  • Step 2: Provide a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 80 (internet based test) or provide a TOEFL score of 500/173/61 and evidence of successful completion of HLI-L Level 9 or provide a TOEFL score of 500/173/61 and evidence of completion of 12 weeks at HLI-L (at least 8 weeks of which must be at the advanced levels).
  • Step 3: Submit official or attested copies (in English) of your secondary and postsecondary transcripts. You must submit a minimum secondary school GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in a college preparatory curriculum. In addition, if you have postsecondary work from a foreign college or university, you must contact World Education Services (WES) at www.wes.org and request that a course-by-course evaluation of your postsecondary work be sent to William Jewell College. College credit may be awarded based on the evaluation provided by WES.
  • Step 4: Submit a letter of recommendation from someone who can attest to your academic potential.
  • Step 5: Submit an official Documentation of Financial Support showing your ability to pay for a William Jewell College education and support yourself throughout your educational program. This statement and documentation will be assessed before you are offered formal admission to William Jewell College.
  • Step 6: If you have not yet completed postsecondary coursework and wish to be considered for an academic merit scholarship, you must provide ACT or SAT scores.
The materials mentioned above must be sent to the Office of Admission by the following deadlines in order for a formal offer of admission to be granted:
  • Fall Term: July 14 
  • Spring Term: December 1
