Mike Stockton is entering his ninth season as the Head Baseball Coach at William Jewell College. In his nine years at the helm of the Cardinals program he has been named the Conference and Region “Coach of the Year” four times, winning the awards in 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2009. The Cardinals are averaging 43 wins a year and in 8 years they have had 13 players sign professional baseball contracts.

Stockton came to WJC after serving as the assistant coach at Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, TX for two years where he was the infield and hitting coach. The DBU squad made back-to-back trips to the NAIA World Series, finishing as the National Champion runner-up in 2000 and fifth in 2001. Under Stockton’s guidance, the team set a new NAIA single season record for double plays with 82 during the 2000 season.

Prior to DBU, Stockton served as an assistant coach for the University of Kansas baseball team from 1998-99, coaching the Jayhawk infielders and assisting with hitting while earning a Master’s degree in Sports Psychology.

Stockton played college baseball for Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS. His team won the conference championship 2 out of 3 years he was there and Stockton was named "Conference Player of the Year" his senior year and was named to the “All-American” team.

Following his graduation from Ottawa, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in English, Stockton played with the Royal Antwerp Eagles out of Antwerp, Belgium. He was the starting shortstop the next two years for the club and was crowned the League’s Most Valuable Player in 1998.

He resides in Liberty, MO with his wife Cindy their son Synjin, and daughter Sadie. 
                                


Joel Lueken

Coach Joel Lueken will enter his fourth year as assistant baseball coaching with the William Jewell Cardinal baseball team and first year as the Assistant Athletic Director. During the first three years at Jewell Joel has helped with athletic management of all home events while completing his Masters in athletic administration from Northwest Missouri State University.

Since coming to William Jewell College Joel has been responsible for the Cardinal offense, outfield defense, coaching 1st base and recruiting. During that time the Cardinals have averaged 43 wins per season, and have been one of the nation’s leaders in stolen bases and overall offense in the NAIA.

Joel came to William Jewell College from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa.  From 1999 to 2006 Lueken was the head baseball coach, one of three admissions recruiters, as well as intramural director, assistant wellness coordinator and assisted with women’s basketball. During that time he increased baseball player enrollment from 17 student athletes to averaging 40 players a year. He has also coached 15 All-Region players, 1 selected as first team All-American, had one player sign a professional contract and numerous players selected to the Academic All-Region teams.

A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Lueken started his college baseball career as an outfielder at Ellsworth Community College where he earned an associate of arts degree and then transferred to Ottawa University where he was an All-Conference outfielder and was part of back-to-back Conference Championships. He graduated from Ottawa with a degree in History and finished up his final semester of college as an assistant coach.

Joel and his wife Melissa live in Liberty and have three children, Emily, David and Reghan.


Jesse McSpadden
Assistant Coach
Jesse McSpadden will be entering his second year as an assistant coach with the William Jewell baseball team after spending four as a key member of the Cardinals pitching staff. Coach McSpadden’s primary responsibilities will include working with the pitchers, recruiting, coordinate baseball camps and help current William Jewell players find summer leagues to play in.

A graduate of Park Hill High School, McSpadden accepted a scholarship to play at Jewell and became a four year letter winner, 1st team All-Conference and 1st team All-Region pitcher. During his career at Jewell he helped guide the Cardinals to four straight regional appearances and a HAAC Conference Championship in 2007. During the summer of 2006 Jesse was named the Ban Johnson summer league pitcher of the year.

Coach McSpadden graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Sport as well as a minor in Coaching. He is currently working on his masters’ degree in Athletic Administration.

Jesse resides in Liberty, Mo., with his wife Staci.
