The William Jewell Baseball program is the only athletic program at William Jewell to win a National Championship. Under the direction of then head Coach Fred Flook, the Cardinals were able to win it all back in 1968. Currently, under the direction of veteran skipper Mike Stockton, the Cardinals have averaged 43 wins its last four seasons. No other team in Jewell history has averaged that many wins in a three-year period. In 2007 the Cardinals finished 43-16 and won the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship. In addition, Coach Mike Stockton won Conference and Regional “Coach of the Year” for the 3rd time in 6 years.
Since joining the Heart of America Conference in 1973 the Cardinals have won 11 Conference Championships and have had numerous players over the years sign on to play professional baseball. Over the last five years Jewell has had eight players sign professional contracts , including 2007 graduate Mark Brackman, who was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft.
Jewell second basemen Dan Rezin also kept Jewell in the national spotlight in 2007 by winning The Rawlings “National Gold Glove Award” which is given to individuals that are the best defensive players at their positions in the nation.
The Cardinals have also been very well represented over the years as Cardinal, Region and NAIA Scholar Athletes. In 2006 four players were named NAIA Academic All-Americans. It is the goal of this baseball program to become a fast, strong, tough disciplined team that consistently competes for championships.
