A bachelor of arts degree with a major in biochemistry requires the following courses in chemistry and biology:

CHE 206 Analytical Chemistry (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)
CHE 301 Organic Chemistry I (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)
CHE 302 Organic Chemistry II (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)
CHE 401 Physical Chemistry I (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)
CHE/BIO 450 Biochemistry (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)
BIO 233 Cell and Molecular Biology (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)
BIO 234 Genetics (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)
BIO 321 Microbiology (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)
BIO 452 Molecular Genetics (4 hrs.) and lab (1 hr.)

In addition, a student will be required to take two courses in physics (PHY 111 or higher) and at least one course in calculus numbered 200 or higher. Students are strongly encouraged to take at least through MAT 201 (Calculus III). A grade of C- or higher is required in each course in the major. Students working toward a major in biochemistry who transfer credit from other schools must satisfactorily complete in residence a minimum of 16 hours of the above requirements in biology or chemistry courses numbered over 200 (and excluding independent study). Courses in chemistry and biology which are more than ten years old will not normally be counted toward the major. Any student majoring in biochemistry must complete all requirements for the bachelor of arts degree.
Chemistry courses used to meet requirements for the biochemistry major may not also be used to meet requirements of the chemistry major or the Oxbridge Molecular Biology major. (That is, students will not be able to double major in chemistry and biochemistry or in Oxbridge Molecular Biology and biochemistry.)
