Bioethics major
The bioethics major was introduced to the college in 2004 by the departments of biology, chemistry, and philosophy. Our first student completed the program in 2006.
The bioethics major is designed for students who want to pursue an interdisciplinary major in science and ethics. All students will obtain a basic grounding in the fields of biology and chemistry and then will explore the application of contemporary moral theory in both biomedical and environmental contexts. Students will also reflect about fundamental philosophical questions pertaining to the scientific enterprise itself. Finally, all students will finish their study with a practicum through which they can relate what they have learned in the classroom with situations in the work environment.
Students who major in bioethics are not permitted to minor in chemistry.
