C-BASE TEST
(College Basic Academic Subjects Examination)
College BASE (C-BASE) is a criterion-referenced achievement test that assesses student proficiency in English, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and three cross-disciplinary, cognitive competencies--interpretive reasoning, strategic reasoning, and adaptive reasoning.
Undergraduate Certification Candidates
Undergraduate candidates for entry into state-approved teacher education programs in Missouri colleges and universities and prior to entry into Teacher Education Programs at William Jewell College must achieve a score of 235 or higher in each of the academic subjects.
Post-baccalaureate Certification Applicants
Elementary Post-baccalaureate applicants may have to take the C-BASE as an entrance requirement. Secondary Post-baccalaureate are required to take the C-BASE only if more testing is necessary to document knowledge competency.
Alternative Certification Candidates
Alternative certification candidates are required to take the C-BASE only if more testing is necessary to document knowledge competency.

Study Guides and additional information are available on line at the Missouri State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Bring with you to the test:
- picture identification,
- sharpened number 2 pencils, and
- a basic calculator (4-6 function only).
Information Requested on Answer Sheet:
- Total hours of course work completed (includes CLEP and AP)
- Total hours completed at WJC.
- Prior scores on C-BASE (voluntary)
- Cumulative GPA (voluntary)
- ACT/SAT score (voluntary)
- Social Security Number
Testing Procedures:
- Test begins at 2:00 p.m. for those taking the full test and those retaking the English/Writing section.
- No student will be admitted after testing has begun.
- For students taking only a portion of the test, report to the testing room no later than 2:50 p.m.
- The use of dictionaries, textbooks, or class notes, etc. are not allowed during the test.
- No food or drinks allowed in the testing room.
Three (3) time limit: If applicant fails to meet C-BASE requirement after three attempts, the applicant cannot be admitted to undergraduate teacher education at WJC.
