 Calling All Cardinal Fans!
As another exciting year in Cardinal Athletics is about to begin, we are honored to share our outstanding accomplishments from the 2005-2006 academic year. The continued success of William Jewell student-athletes would not be possible without support from alumni, friends, and fans as active members of the Cardinal Club. Serving as the College’s official athletic booster club, the Cardinal Club is essential as we strive for a competitive edge in the Heart of America conference and the NAIA.
Donations to the Cardinal Club last year provided support for the following team accomplishments:
- Women’s Soccer finished first in the conference with an overall record of 16-4, competed in the national tournament, and ended the season with a #14 national ranking.
- Men’s Basketball achieved a 27-8 record, participated in the national tournament for the fourth consecutive year, and finished with a #12 national ranking.
- Women’s Tennis finished first in the conference and accumulated an overall record of 18-2.
- Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field student-athletes broke 13 different all-time College records, and participated in several events at the national tournament.
- Volleyball enjoyed a 20-10 overall record and participated in NAIA postseason play.
- Football enjoyed a 6-4 season in Head Coach Fran Schwenk’s first year.
- Women’s Basketball finished with a record of 19-13.
- Baseball finished with an overall record of 39-21 and participated in NAIA postseason play for the third consecutive year.
In regard to individual accomplishment, Drew Mathews (men’s basketball) received the conference’s player of the year award and was named to the NAIA Division II All-American 1st Team; and Nicole Revenaugh (women’s soccer) received the conference’s co-player of the year award.
On the academic front, we are excited about the return of the Physical Education major along with the addition of a new major – Recreation and Sport. Coursework for these majors was offered for the first time during the past academic year. And we are very proud to let you know that over 200 individuals were recognized as scholar-athletes during the spring 2006 semester by achieving a GPA of 3.0 or better, with 15 individuals achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA!
Clearly, great things are happening in Cardinal Athletics. We thank you for doing your part to enhance the overall experience for our student-athletes. If you have not provided support in the past, would you consider becoming a teammate this year? Contributions to the Cardinal Club will be used as you designate. Please see the reverse side for more information and benefits of Cardinal Club membership.
We look forward to seeing you at our athletic competitions this year. And as always, it is a great day to be a Cardinal!
